Trenux – a cycle trailer which can always be with you and not limit the flexibility of your bicycle.

Thanks to an innovative folding mechanism we are able to combine a cycle trailer and rack in one product.
In comparison to bulky cargo bikes or narrow bicycle bags, Trenux offers the ideal type of transportation for all situations: for the weekly shoping, searching for a parking space, or at the barbecue with friends.
In seconds the bicycle rack unfolds into a cargo trailer. The trailer is ready to use and after you are done it disappears in its storing position over the bicycle’s rear wheel again.

Trenux – a cycle trailer which can always be with you and not limit the flexibility of your bicycle.

Thanks to an innovative folding mechanism we are able to combine a cycle trailer and rack in one product.
In comparison to bulky cargo bikes or narrow bicycle bags, Trenux offers the ideal type of transportation for all situations: for the weekly shoping, searching for a parking space, or at the barbecue with friends.
In seconds the bicycle rack unfolds into a cargo trailer. The trailer is ready to use and after you are done it disappear in its storing position over the bicycle’s rear wheel again.

Two bottle crates, a suitcase or four flower boxes fit inside the unfolded Trenux. Any cargo is held in place by the trapezium shape and the side rail. Additional straps tie-down the cargo.

In order to unfold Trenux the folding block on the drawbar and the spring clamp needs to be released. Afterwards Trenux is easily unfolded by pulling the rear grip.

To retract Trenux simply release the folding block on the drawbar again and lift the whole trailer at the central grip. The central grip is only accessible when the entire trailer is unloaded.

Before the next ride it is necessary to ensure the folding block and the spring clamp is locked in place securely.

The tarp is fully integrated in the folding mechanism and forms the rectangular cargo area. In case of rain the tarp can be expanded into a closed and waterproof dry bag. Your stuff will stay dry and clean inside.

At the supermarket the dry bag is easley dismounted and can be used as a tote bag.

The innovative hitch joint provides Trenux with unique riding characteristics. As soon as Trenux is unfolded the transverse joint is locked by the folding block on the drawbar.

The rotation around the longitudinal direction is able to rotate the whole 360°. In case of an accident, Trenux will remain straight behind the bicycle without additional danger.

The Anti-Sway hitch makes sure the trailer follows the bicycle also at higher speeds without snaking.

For best maneuverability in narrow places the angle between bike and trailer could vary up to 95°.

The hitch joint is designed according to DIN EN 15918.

The central mechanism is the main part of the folding process and is important for synchronizing all movement.A cable pull reduces the necessary force when unfolding Trenux.

The parallel swivel mechanism keeps the wheel orientation vertical at all times. In addition, it transfers a major part of the weight directly onto the wheels. The central grip is also directly connected with this mechanism to guarantee easy folding.

The central mechanism is patent pending.

Trenux could be used without, or in addition to, a pre-installed bicycle rack. Like a traditional bicycle rack Trenux is mounted on the left and right side of the rear axle and at the seat post.
Using this standardized system Trenux fits on every bicycle.

The team and its story


In 2016 we went on a bicycle trip to the Baltic sea with a traditional cycle trailer. After the first 100 km the wheel suspension of the trailer suddenly broke. We tried to mount the broken trailer on top of our cargo rack. After some more kilometre we tried to fold it. We were successful but it was only possible to fold it once.

Back at home in Magdeburg a new trailer was necessary. That was the right time to use our knowledge from the mechatronic studies and build something that should revolutionize urban mobility. That was the start of Trenux. Two years later we build already several prototypes and finished our studies at the University.

Today we are working 24/7 to prepare everything for the launch of Trenux.
We look forward to receiving your feedback and start our crowdfunding campaign in spring 2019.

Is it possible to transport kids with Trenux?

For the safety of children it is necessary to have a foldable roll cage.
As soon Trenux has confirmed its use for cargo transportation we will launch the version for kids.

Which certifications Trenux needs to fulfill?

There is no technical inspection agency for bicycle trailers.
But there is a DIN norm for safety requirements and test methods of cycle trailers (DIN EN 15918)
Trenux meets this standard.

What is the price of one Trenux?

We want to offer a product with the quality “Made in Germany”. Therefore we are currently in negotiations with local producers which will result in our final price.

Does Trenux fit on every bike?

We have not found a bike yet which could not support Trenux.
In case of bikes with a bigger gap between the rear wheel and the seatpost Trenux tends towards the seatpost.
This isn’t a technical problem. For better style a longer attachment is used to compensate the length.
